The Worship, Arts and Music Ministry Team (WAMM) works to design, organize, implement and evaluate all aspects or worship experiences…from the time one arrives in the parking lot and enters the Sanctuary, until one leaves.  The WAMM Team meets every Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until about 11:00 a.m.  A core group of 8 people, enhanced by occasional participants, enters into lively conversation about the worshiping life of the congregation.

Additional ministry teams are coordinated through WAMM to extend an extravagant welcome by serving as greeters, ushers, worship leaders, scripture readers, acolytes, anointers and communion stewards.  Individuals and small groups share their gifts in the areas of decorative visuals, liturgical dance, creative printed orders of worship, audio-visual presentations that are projected onto the Chancel screens and communication through printed materials and visual announcements before worship and, during fellowship in Elliott Hall, after worship.

Music is a key component in worship.  Congregational singing that represents a blend of musical styles is led by the Chancel Choir consisting of praise singers, cantors, and traditional use of the organ. The Chancel Chimes (Handbells) plays frequently, presenting music that enhances the theme of a worship service.  All of these groups take full leadership or worship in special music Sundays near Easter and Christmas.  The music ministries are led by professional musicians who also seek to find opportunities to participate in community events that help spread the word about the church’s mission.

Chancel Choir and Chancel Chimes

Director of Music: David Dunlap

Choir Redo by DavidThe Chancel Choir is a Christ-centered group of singers that helps lead worship every Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. service by incorporating a blend of styles ranging from Renaissance to contemporary classical and praise music.  The choir rehearses each Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m., as well as on Wednesday evenings, in the preparation of hymns and service music as well as anthems that feature the choir and soloists.

The Choir is led by our Director of Music and Organist, David Dunlap, and functions as a team that supports and cares for each other in their spiritual and musical growth.  Participants are not required to have previous musical experience. The rehearsals are led in a style that encourages musical growth and competence.  The choir also participates in concerts in the church and the community.

handbells

The Chancel Chimes uses a set of almost five octaves of individual bronze handbells.  Our Chancel Chimes play during the 10:30 a.m. service on a monthly basis as well as special seasonal services and participation in community events such as the Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Christmas Tree Lighting Event. Several of the players bring musical experience and assist those who are new to reading music.  The Chancel Choir rehearsals are scheduled back-to-back with the Wednesday night Choir rehearsals so that members may easily participate in both groups.
